Checking Business Process for Errors

After you have designed a process model, you can check it for logic errors. Examples of logic errors are no start or end event, no required connectors between elements of the model, incorrectly closed gateways, incorrect swimlanes types. The process is checked automatically before publication. To do it manually, click Check in the toolbar of the process (Fig. 1).

If the model is correct, ELMA will show the following message (Fig. 2).
Fig. 2. Message saying that the process is composed without logic errors.
If the process is composed incorrectly, in the bottom part of the window of the graphic model a new section appears, featuring errors and warnings (Fig. 3).
Fig. 3. Errors and Warnings section.
The objects that have errors are outlines red or yellow:
yellow stands for warnings
red stands for errors.
If you click on the text of the error or warning in the Errors and Warning section, the red or yellow outline of the corresponding object will change to bold.
Errors and Warnings section:
- warning. There are elements that function erroneously and can cause problems when the process is executed. Process execution is possible but not recommended.
- error. There are elements that make it impossible for the process to function. A model with errors cannot be published.
If there is an error in the script, the Errors and Warnings section of the graphic model will show a message about the script error. The description of script errors is given on the Scripts tab of the process page.
The Check function allows you to check if the graphic model is correctly composed. It does not guaranteed that the process has no semantic errors.
